The Oratory of San Giovanni Battista in Poggiolo

The ruins of a monastery and the church of St John the Baptist can be found in Montepulciano. They belonged to the Benedictine Sylvestrine Congregation, founded in 1228 by Silvestro Guzzolini, a mystic and hermit from the Marches. The congregation had taken over from a community of hermits of St John the Baptist in 1332.
